Meditation
Yuelai Art Museum
As a representative artist of Hungary color abstractions Attila Janos Konnyu has shown extraordinary artistic talent in his forty years of image and painting exploration. The exhibition takes "contemplation" as the theme, and combines the works of Konnyu to let everyone see the spiritual context and emotional belonging of the artist over the years. His paintings, colors and strokes flow and blend with each other, produce strong emotional interaction and spiritual impact in people. The bold and clear colors in the scratch of the gradual take directly to the deepest part of the soul.

In his colors, we can also see the change of gestures to form a three-dimensional picture, showing a sense of relief and sculpture which is another focus of his work. In color, red and blue seem to be his main tone, like his color abstract label. I divided his work into red and blues. In his red tone works he uses bright red, full of overflowing hot emotions illusory of a strong spiritual belief as if from the blood vessels spurt out of the plasma in the artist's enthusiasm. There is an invisible force in the enthusiasm, this force can infect the mood of the viewer. His red tone, there will always be a confrontation between red and black. The black as smoke spread in the absolute red space, disorder and mystery.

Konnyu said: "Anyone who wants to see the light must risk the darkness." His blue works profound and romantic occupy your full line of sight, occasionally orange, bright yellow, as if to the deep sea embellished with a starlight. The inexplicable black forms are an unlimited extension of our nerves, which are active, rich and sensitive. In addition, the paintings are a reverie infinite, it expresses the artist's unique understanding and perception of the world. If we want to categorize, I think Konnyu belongs to lyric abstract art. He expresses life as extremely sensitive. He combines the infinite love that unites body, mind, soul, like a wondrous illusion. His love experience is extraordinary, he enters the perspective of the painting in a unique and soft way. Konnyu's paintings are full of motion which can infect the heart of every audience, touching the aching pain that has not been touched for years. It's as if these elusive features were sewing up a person's wounds.

Of course, his works emphasize personal emotion and spiritual experience, rather than the reproduction of the real world and have a strong subjective expression. His paintings become a link between the heart and the eyes. As Konnyu himself put it, "my works are the visual expressions of emotional energy, formations of several inherent microcosmic interactions in the macro universe." The audience can have a wide range of interpretations of these works, which is not limited only to its own interpretation, its own exploration must prevail in the work.

In the philosophical sense, it can be found that Konnyu’s abstract art is influenced by existentialism, it also reflects the thought of phenomenology. It can be seen that the existence of the individual precedes the essence shows the uniqueness of the individual, which is difficult to fully understand. Through the direct grasp of image experience in painting, it abstracts the reality, rather than the reproduction of the objective reality.

The diversified presentation of the works is the overflowing of the creative energy of Konnyu’s exuberant creation. This exhibition can not only appreciate his abstract colors on the painting, but you can enter into his sculpture and interact with them. Sit in the dark space quietly through his works, find the painting's emotions, spiritual pain and the pleasure of art.

“In a dream the man imagined himself as a butterfly, and when he woke up, he did not know whether he had only dreamed that he was a butterfly, or whether his existence was merely a butterfly's dream”.

Only the person can teach us the secrets of Tao, who has experience in this special world.
I first encountered Konnyu's works in the United States, in Palm Beach, Florida. Sunlight permeated the paintings on the wall in his studio. Approaching the large red images, the entire field of vision was filled and dominated by a kind of glowing surface like an energy explosion. In his paintings with shades of blue, the primal power of the ocean a few meters from the studio, the wonderful colors of the water conveyed a real ancient power and feeling. In the air washed crystal clear by the Florida sunlight and the ocean breeze, the colors lived a life of their own and shone. This special energy, which originates and flows from the power of the sun and the ocean, permeates and energizes everything on earth. The sensitive artist feels all this and is able to display it in his inspired moments.
This all-pervading energy can often be felt in China, where an incredibly fast developing economy and country is being built. Sensing and understanding it, I began researching its origins and thus experienced and learned that everything in China is influenced, permeated and influenced by the Tao. Originally, the Tao means a specific, defined path, which it also means the path of the stars in the sky, but it also means the wise path that leads to a goal, to the order and law prevailing in everything. As a result of all this, most Chinese philosophers endow the Tao with substantial properties, which are objectively and identically identified with the refined primordial matter itself, which has endowed the Tao with a kind of magical power over time, because with its penetrating knowledge even the prolongation of life, the levitation, or invisibility, maybe even eternal life. Tao can be conveyed through art, painting, calligraphy and Zen. The perfect unity, the permanent expressions of spontaneity, is the Tao. Exactly as in Konnyu's works, the works of art were created spontaneously in his meditative states. The secret of true painting lies in this perception. True painting is ultimately not just a function of the physical movement of the hand or fingers. Real painting can only be achieved through the soul flowing into them. In fact, the soul is the Tao.

Art works similarly to mediums, it can convey interpretable information from the invisible world, from the collective subconscious, something to say that cannot be conveyed using only the tools of the arts. Konnyu creates his works in a meditative state, just as the Tao can be perceived in a meditative state, and can only be displayed when it becomes a substance. As a curator, I organized several exhibitions for Konnyu in Europe, the USA, as well as in the mainland cities of Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Xi'an and many other places.
The closeness to nature, ecological and innovative approach of the Yuleai Art Museum building had a great impact on me. It is a pleasure to dream up a large exhibition in this space. Water is present in the museum, light permeates the building, and the location was adequate for presenting the works of Konnyu. If we examine the genres, we can see the ubiquitous meditative works in a harmony of method. The closeness to nature, ecological and innovative approach of the Yuleai Art Museum building had a great impact on me. It is a pleasure to dream up a large exhibition in this space. Water is present in the museum, light permeates the building, and the location was adequate for presenting the works of Konnyu. The large floor area of the museum gave the opportunity to present the entire spectrum of Konnyu's works. Therefore, in addition to paintings, digital works, installations, sculptures, graphics and video works created in accordance with the spirit of the age were also presented as an excellent opportunity. All of these are also expressions of the artist's need for completeness.
If we examine the genres, we can see the harmony of the ubiquitous meditative creative method. The world of emotions researched by Rorschach tests is manifested in his digital works. In his paintings, the ancient forces emerging from the collective subconscious can be felt. According to the Chinese concept, "Chi Yun", i.e, the breath of life or soul, must be present in a painting; so the mere painting technique is not enough. "Chi Yun" permeates nature. The artist must be saturated with this living force so that his work affects the senses of the beholder. The visualization of the heart installation arranged in spheres with the installation mirrors, direct lighting, heartbeat sound effects provides an opportunity for special meditation. The hidden source of inspiration is the Tao. In ancient Greek times, the works of the artists and poets of that society were attributed to inspiration from the gods, and this inspiration was called "divine". The Japanese look for the source of poetry in the heart. The Chinese turn to the Tao for inspiration, which also comes from the heart. The audiovisual room, which provides a special visual world, is an excellent opportunity to present the works created during Konnyu's film and television career. With the tools of movement, the human body, and modern dance, he manifests his original ideas in moving images, which talk about human relationships, love, and the importance of art in the great cycle of life. His graphic genre is inherently meditative, the initial display forms of Konnyu's thoughts, thus the imprint of undistorted primary feelings. Thus, it is one of the important elements of the exhibition.

In the past five years, Konnyu's works have been exhibited in many Chinese cities in museums and galleries in China, in thirty great and important locations. As a matter of fact, it can be said that Konnyu is a foreign artist who has exhibited the most to the Chinese audience in the past five years. The reception and enjoyment of his abstract works in this vast country and in this wonderful museum is probably due to the meditative nature of their work, which resonates with Eastern culture and thus with the omnipresent Tao.

Dialogue between
Art Historian, Chief Curator and Director of Yuelai Art Museum
Madam Wang Jumeng and artist Attila Janos Konnyu.
Wang Jumeng: It has very high color saturation and mostly blue and red tones. Is this a personal preference or is it due to some meaning?
Konnyu: In my creations, concentration is always a primary factor on my part, in order to bring them closer to the elemental energies, which can be found both on our planet and in the universe. On our planet, the color blue partly represents the air that is so important to us, inconceivably necessary for our lives, the sea, river, ocean world that is important for life, which is a huge, inclusive female energy. For me, the red tone represents that masculine vitality, that positive energy, without which perhaps there would be no life on earth.
Wang Jumeng: Does the expression of painting relate to your visual experience in your work?
Konnyu: In any way, during my travels, whenever I went around the world, I was always very impressed by the power of nature, I was particularly impressed by the beauty of the ocean and the sea, and the effect of the sun on the vegetation. However, before each creation, I conduct an inner meditation, concentrating on all the many beautiful experiences that represent the harmony of nature. I create my creations with these energies.
Wang Jumeng: Do you think the works are unique in terms of technique?
Konnyu: Yes, I think it is of great importance, in my opinion every artist should find the technique closest to his personality, because only in this case can he truly represent everything he represents. However, this is an extremely long process, but at the same time it is also uplifting, because at the end of the process, the artist meets his own inner self in his works, I am happy that I was able to experience that.
Wang Jumeng: How do you feel about the modernity and contemporaneity of the works?
Konnyu: I know that many kinds of artistic trends have started in the environment of extremely young artists, which now seem to be popular in connection with the Internet media, but I think that real art is actually about the fact that the work in question is not a current popular trend, but has an elementary effect. There have always been and always will be fashion trends, popular trends, but original art always remains original. I try to represent this originality in all my creations.
Wang Jumeng: From a philosophical point of view, how do you reflect this in your works?
Konnyu: Metamorphoses of matter during the creation of my abstract sculptures and paintings of existential figures and gestures, in the intimate state of inner meditation while I let the subconscious work I feel as if the material forming in my hands could be enriched with a kind of unique content, as if it crossed the boundaries of humanity. (real) matter and abstract (conceptual/mental) contents, some kind of other reality can enter our human dimension. It is as if some powerful rhythm dictates a kind of flow, the three-dimensional presentation of which is both amorphous and formal, and then the final conclusion is born only when things deeply obey the Inner Self.
The two-dimensional world of a painting cannot perfectly reproduce the inspirations of my works, the constantly pulsing, moving, vibrating process, the "unknown" world of movements and love, what I can experience during my meditations. However, the connection of sculpture and painting can open a new door for the visitor/viewer to a never-before-experienced world. The effect of the work/works can be more effective, say in a richer constellation, so the real goal, the form of address, becomes more perfect.

Attila Janos Konnyu's
Digital Works
Attila Janos Konnyu's collection of works called digital art, - (only the creation technique is digital, AI programmed) - utilizes the Rorschach test. The amorphous form world is identical. There are many similarities in the use of colors, and the size is also close to the tables used in the test worldwide. It hardly differs from the specified number of boards, some of them are axially symmetrical.
The Rorschach test is used to compile a personality sketch of the tested person based on the test person's answers, briefly formulated - (who am I ?) - which is evaluated by a psychologist according to a predetermined criteria system. This is a special diagnostic method that is also used for treatment. The test has been widely used worldwide for decades.
The ensemble of Attila Konnyu’s art generally illustrates the reverse principle. For him, the process of creation takes place in a heightened state of consciousness in a certain way (from the psychological point of view, allowing the subconscious to take effect), which are a combination of forms, transparent feelings, and spots evoked from the collective subconscious. All of these works are reflected in the series of special works presented here.
